What I Read Last Week:

Hollowland by Amanda Hocking
"This is the way the world ends - not with a bang or a whimper, but with zombies breaking down the back door."

Nineteen-year-old Remy King is on a mission to get across the wasteland left of America, and nothing will stand in her way - not violent marauders, a spoiled rock star, or an army of flesh-eating zombies.

The Heart of Hannen by Fawn Bonning
Christine is a troubled teen with a dark past. She is miserable in her small town. Shadowed in shame, she is destined to live her lonely life as an outcast. She has no idea that her true destiny lies in a different town, in a different world, a most brutal world called Atriia. There she will learn the true meaning of misery, the true meaning of loneliness, of shame. She will also learn that her bravery is boundless as she battles against a formidable foe, a dark shadow that will smother the land. She will learn the true meaning of love, as well, in the arms of a most unlikely candidate. He is Hannen Fallier, the one they call the foul fraigen dropper, revered by men for his fearless feats, but looked upon by women with open disdain. With a face horribly mauled, he hides behind a mask of shame, deeming himself unworthy of love. That he would seek acceptance from Christine is irony in its purest form. That he would seek her love . . . the ultimate betrayal.

The Fallen Star Series 1-4 by Jessica Sorensen
For eighteen year-old Gemma, life has never been normal. Up until recently, she has been incapable of feeling emotion. And when she’s around Alex, the gorgeous new guy at school, she can feel electricity that makes her skin buzz. Not to mention the monsters that haunt her nightmares have crossed over into real-life.
But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma’s life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn’t be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

What I Plan On Reading This Week:

Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.
In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Croc and The Fox by Eve Langlais
A career military man, Viktor lives for the next mission – and his collection of weapons -- but a raid on an experimental lab makes him an unwilling protector, mostly because he can’t peel Renee off. A cold blooded croc, he never intended to settle down, but he didn’t count on a foxy lady warming his heart.

The world outside the laboratory was a big scary place. Frightened, Renee latches onto the biggest, baddest, and sexiest, warrior around. Sharp toothed and with ice in his veins, Viktor’s violent side should have sent her running, but instead, she finds the courage to face her fears –and tame the lizard.

Warning: An ornery croc discovers he does have a pulse when a hot to trot fox decides to latch on, and never let go. Tongue in cheek humor, sizzling moments and an evil, tiny villain await. Muahahaha.

Last Breath by Rachel Caine
With her boss preoccupied researching the Founder Houses in Morganville, student Claire Danvers is left to her own devices when she learns that three vampires have vanished without a trace. She soon discovers that the last person seen with one of the missing vampires is someone new to town-a mysterious individual named Magnus. After an uneasy encounter with Morganville's latest resident, Claire is certain Magnus isn't merely human. But is he a vampire-or something else entirely?

Waiting on Wednesday Poison Princess by Kresley Cole

Waiting On Wednesday

Poison Princess by Kresley Cole
She could save the world—or destroy it.
Sixteen year old Evangeline “Evie” Greene leads a charmed life, until she begins experiencing horrifying hallucinations. When an apocalyptic event decimates her Louisiana hometown, Evie realizes her hallucinations were actually visions of the future—and they’re still happening. Fighting for her life and desperate for answers, she must turn to her wrong-side-of-the-bayou classmate: Jack Deveaux.
But she can’t do either alone.
With his mile-long rap sheet, wicked grin, and bad attitude, Jack is like no boy Evie has ever known. Even though he once scorned her and everything she represented, he agrees to protect Evie on her quest. She knows she can’t totally depend on Jack. If he ever cast that wicked grin her way, could she possibly resist him?
Who can Evie trust?
As Jack and Evie race to find the source of her visions, they meet others who have gotten the same call. An ancient prophesy is being played out, and Evie is not the only one with special powers. A group of twenty-two teens has been chosen to reenact the ultimate battle between good and evil. But it’s not always clear who is on which side….

My thoughts:
I cannot wait for this book! An apocalyptic setting mixed with supernatural powers, you can't get much better than this. Plus it takes place in the heart of the bayou which isn't a place where stories are usually set which is nice and new. You can find three chapters from this book here.

Defying the Odds by Kele Moon

From Barnes and Noble

A woman running from an abusive past. A famous UFC heavyweight fighter who relies on his fists for a living. A slice of pie on Thanksgiving brings these two unlikely lovers together.
The stranger ends up being Clay Powers, a famous UFC heavyweight fighter. Clay's large build and dangerous fists have always intimidated. People in his hometown keep their distance and Clay is fine with that. Everything changes when a new waitress at the local diner buys him a piece of pie on Thanksgiving. Melody is running from her past and the small, country town of Garnet is the perfect hiding place. With an ex-husband after her and scars from her abusive marriage etched deep, the last thing she expects is to fall for a man who makes a living with his fists, but she can't resist Clay or the tender connection they share.
Finding love in the most unlikely of places, the passion is undeniable, but Clay and Melody know their haunted pasts and unpredictable futures leave the odds stacked against them

REVIEW: 4 STARS

I read the review of this book on another blog and I decided that I had to read this book. It was really cheap for my nook so that made it an even better buy! When Melody first brought Clay his pumpkin pie and he tried to choke it down even though he absolutely detests pumpkin pie my crush on him began. Melody was a sweetheart and I hated that her ex husband treated her like he did. Like Clay, I couldn't understand why anyone would want to abuse Melody when all she did was worry about everyone else. I wasn't expecting this book to be as graphic as it was though. I was expecting a young adult book and instead got an adult romance book. It wasn't what I was expecting but it also wasn't off putting. Some of the scenes are described in great detail so I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under the age of 17. The only thing I didn't like about the book was the development of Clay and Melody's romance. I felt like they met and immediately fell in love without much inbetween. It almost moved too quickly for me to feel like their relationship was more than just lust. All in all I really enjoyed this book. It moved quickly and there was a nice lead up to the ending.

Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

 Beautiful Disaster
Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire

From Barnes and Noble
The new Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.
Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match.

REVIEW: 4 STARS

I was extremely excited when I found this book! I have a weakness for bad boys and Travis Maddox is the baddest of them all. It doesn't take much to set him off and you do not want to be on the receiving end of his anger. He has a new girl on his arm everyday and he is the exact opposite of who
Abby wants to be with. But when she goes to an underground fight she meets Travis and everything changes for her. I liked Abby a lot because she did not fall for Travis's charms the moment she met him. She was well aware of his reputation and she had no qualms about bringing it up as the reason their friendship would be their only relationship. But as the book goes on Abby finds out there's a lot more to him than a gorgeous face and his pent up anger. The more abby gets to know him, the harder it is to fight the growing attraction that they both feel. Travis was extremely sweet to her most of the time but he could really be a jerk when he wanted to. The one thing I disliked about this book was the length and the content of the middle of the book. I absolutely LOVED the first 130 pages or so (Nook Version) but than for almost the entire middle of the book I found Travis's behavior to be a little alarming. He took his sweet protective side to extreme lengths and he turned into the kind of person that Abby was trying so hard to avoid. The ending was a lot better, but it was a little out of nowhere. It was a good ending, but definitely not what I expected which was actually sort of nice. Over all this was a really good book. The romance was intense and the side characters were very refreshing. I definitely felt myself rooting for America and Shepley and I wouldn't mind reading a book from their prospective. The middle is slow but the ending is worth it so don't give up!

Want by Stephanie Lawton

Want by Stephanie Lawton

Julianne counts the days until she can pack her bags and leave her old-money, tradition-bound Southern town where appearance is everything and secrecy is a way of life. A piano virtuoso, she dreams of attending a prestigious music school in Boston. Failure is not an option, so she enlists the help of New England Conservatory graduate Isaac Laroche to help her.
She can't understand why he suddenly gave up Boston's music scene to return to the South. He doesn't know her life depends on escaping it. Julianne must face down madness from without, just as it threatens from within. Isaac must resist an inappropriate attraction, but an indiscretion at a Mardi Gras ball-the pinnacle event for Mobile's elite-forces their present wants and needs to collide with sins of the past.

Will Julianne accept the help she's offered and get everything she ever wanted, or will she self-destruct and take Isaac down with her?

REVIEW: 3 STARS

I saw a review on this book at another blog I had visited and I was immediately intrigued. I'm a music nerd so whenever I see a book that has to do with the amount of dedication and sacrifice it takes to make a living from music, it makes it a must read in my eyes. Although it started out as a must read, it did not end like that. My heart went out to Julianna and her whole home dynamic. When we learn about how her mother treats her it made me sick to my stomach. When Isaac came into her life I was excited to read about him because I've always had a thing for older men but my excitement quickly waned. Issac was just very mean and obnoxious. There were things that he did for her that were very sweet but they were quickly outnumbered by the things he did to put her down. Dave on the other hand was a total sweetheart. He knew from the start that he liked her for exactly who she was. Normally I hate it in books when there is a main romance and than another person steps in to ruin it, but in this book that's all I wanted. I wanted Julianna to just get over Isaac and run into Dave's arms. As much as there were characters that I couldn't stand, there were characters that I abosolutely wanted to be real. I immediately felt a strong connection to her piano teacher Mr. Cline. He really cares about her and it showed. Her brother R.J. was also another very sweet character. I wanted Julianna to tell her brother what was happening so that he could help her. The family dynamic and her music expertise were most definitely the best parts of the book. Her struggles were heartbreaking and I wanted to reach into the book and help her. All in all this book wasn't bad. The other reviewer really enjoyed this book and I was hoping that I would too but I just couldn't get into it.

Twisted by Amity Hope

Twisted by Amity Hope

*Disclaimer: This book is not available in paperbook and is only available for purchase on a nook or kindle.

Maya Anderson has faced more than her share of tragedy and heartbreak. For the past six years she’s constantly been on the move with her mom. When another disaster strikes, she finds herself back in her childhood hometown of Beaumont, living with her older sister for her senior year.

A chance meeting reacquaints her with Ben McCaffey, a long-forgotten classmate from her past. After the death of his girlfriend, Ben has become a social outcast. He’s despised by some and feared by most.

Determined to become Ben’s friend, Maya begins to break through his layers of emotional protection. It isn’t long before they realize that they both have secrets in their pasts. As the line between dealing with grief and the need for revenge begins to fade, the secrets that draw them together may be what will ultimately tear them apart. Because the closer Maya gets to Ben, the more dangerous her situation becomes.

REVIEW: 5 STARS

It's really hard to review this book without including a bunch of spoilers but here goes nothing! I bought this book a couple of weeks ago but hadn't gotten a chance to read it until now because I would always find a different book to read that sounded a bit more interesting. And after reading it I'm really sad I put it off this long! Twisted is a heart breaking tale of Maya and Ben's hopelessly hopeful relationship.
I really like Maya as a character, she's been through a lot in her life and I was so glad when she moved in with her sister for her senior year of high school and could just be a normal teenager and to not be the parent that her mom never was. She first meets Ben when she's hit by a car while riding her bike. He helps her up and brushes her off which is different for him because at this point in his life he's never the hero.
Ben is wonderfully real and unselfish. Maya is the first person in two years who has wanted anything to do with him but he hesitates in being her friend to try to protect her. There are those in the story like Alec who will do anything to keep Ben isolated and when Maya shows some interest he goes to extreme lengths to stop her.
In this book I felt like some of the characters were weak at best. Olivia was very selfish and gullibe and Hailey's character was just plain annoying. They were so quick to believe the rumors circulating the school that i just wanted to reach into the book and slap some sense into them. But all of the side characters weren't bad. Phoebe was a sweetheart in disguise and her love triangle added a nice touch to the story. All in all this book was great. Maya learns how to be with people she loves and who love her and Ben finally starts fighting back.

Obsidian by Jennifer L Armentrout

From B&N
Starting over sucks.
When we moved to West Virginia right before my senior year, I’d pretty much resigned myself to thick accents, dodgy internet access, and a whole lot of boring.... until I spotted my hot neighbor, with his looming height and eerie green eyes. Things were looking up.
And then he opened his mouth.
Daemon is infuriating. Arrogant. Stab-worthy. We do not get along. At all. But when a stranger attacks me and Daemon literally freezes time with a wave of his hand, well, something…unexpected happens.
The hot alien living next door marks me.
You heard me. Alien. Turns out Daemon and his sister have a galaxy of enemies wanting to steal their abilities, and Daemon’s touch has me lit up like the Vegas Strip. The only way I'm getting out of this alive is by sticking close to Daemon until my alien mojo fades.
If I don't kill him first, that is.

REVIEW: 5 STARS

Before I started Obsidian, I had been in a book dry spell. Nothing I'd read for a while had left me wanting more! Every book was just meh. The last great thing I had read was Shatter Me and It's hard to compete with that book! I than found Obsidian on my nook and since it was only 4.99 I decided to give it a shot and I'm really glad I did. Obsidian is one of the sexiest, infuriating, laugh out loud books I've ever read. Katy is the perfect main character. She's so strong in dealing with everything that comes at her and she take the whole "my next door neighbor is an alien" thing in stride. I really found myself rooting for her and saying You Go Girl! when she would tell Daemon off!
Daemon . . . . ahhh Daemon. Never before have I wanted to meet an alien in my life as much as I did after this book ended. He's just plain old sexy and he has this little smirk that makes you want to slap him and kiss him at the same time. He's tough and sarcastic on the outside but on the inside he's something a lot more. He has his reasons for being so tough on Katy and Dee's relationship and even though he doesn't go about it the best way, he cares about his sister more than anything and is fierce in protecting her. I could almost feel steam rising off the pages when Daemon and Katy were together. Their chemistry is palpable and the more they try to fight it the harder it gets for them to stay away from each other.
But as much as I loved the romance in this book that wasn't all there was to love. Katy's relationship with her mother is amazingly sweet and you can really feel how much her mother is warring between keeping busy to help with the pain of losing her husband and also trying to be with Katy as much as possible. Katy's relationship with Dee was also very beautiful. She is so bubbly and sweet and she is the perfect friend for Katy to have. All in all I absolutely loved this book. It is definitely my new favorite book. Do yourself a favor and go out and read this book, you won't regret it!

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

From Barnes & Noble
Being the good girl isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Ashton Gray has grown weary of playing the part to please her parents, and to be worthy of the town’s prince charming, Sawyer Vincent. Maybe That’s why she’s found herself spending time with Sawyer’s cousin, Beau, while he’s away for the summer camping with his family. Beau is nothing like her perfect boyfriend. He’s the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, dangerous in ways she’s only day dreamed about, and the one guy she should stay away from.
Beau never envied Sawyer his loving parents, his big nice home, or his position as quarterback. He loves him like a brother. Which is why he's tried everything in his power to keep his distance from Sawyer’s girlfriend. Even if he has loved her since the age of five, Ashton is Sawyer’s girl, so therefore she’s off limits. But when Sawyer leaves for the summer, Ashton, the one girl Beau would move Heaven and Earth for, decides she wants to get into trouble. Stabbing the one person who’s always accepted him and stood by him in the back, is the cost of finally holding Ashton Gray in his arms. Is she worth losing his cousin over?.... Hell Yeah.

Beau, Ashton and Sawyer have been friends almost their entire lives. Beau and Ashton would do something crazy and Sawyer would always be there to bail them out. Beau has always loved Ashton and he believes that she is the only thing that is truly his but all of that changes when Sawyer claims Ashton as his own.

This book was amazing. For something that I only paid 2.99 for I wasn't expecting it to be as good as it was. There was a real depth to the story and you could really feel the character's struggles. Beau wants Ashton more than anything but his cousin is the only one who's ever really loved him unconditionally and believed in him. How can he destroy that? I could really feel the back and forth that Beau and Ash went through when they had to decide how far they were willing to go to be with each other. We don't really see a lot of Sawyer in this book, which was fine by me because he was not my favorite character. I've read the second in the series from his point of view and I loved his character but it is hard to win when you are compared to Beau. He starts off as an acoholic smart ass and eventually morphs into a total sweetheart that would do anything for Ash. Especially kick some butt! Ash's transformation in this book was also very sweet. She realizes how far she's come from who she really is and she finally figures out what she needs to do to get back to the old Ash. There are a lot of suprises in this book that I definitely did not see coming which made the ending even more bittersweet. All in all I hereby give this book 4 and a half stars. Go buy it, check it out from your library, steal it if you must because this book will definitely leave you searching for the sequel.

Waiting on Wednesday Onxy By Jennifer L Armentrout

Onyx by Jennifer L Armentrout
Coming August 14th

From Barnes & Noble

Being connected to Daemon Black sucks…
Thanks to his alien mojo, Daemon’s determined to prove what he feels for me is more than a product of our bizarro connection. So I’ve sworn him off, even though he’s running more hot than cold these days. But we’ve got bigger problems.
Something worse than the Arum has come to town…

No one is who they seem. And not everyone will survive the lies…

Sounds amazing right?! This is the second in the series by Jennifer and if you haven't read the first one (Obsidian) I recommend you do so immediately. Daemon will leave you drooling and Katy is a kick ass heroine to root for! Here's a few teasers to help with the wait!

I thought he was going to say something, probably perverted, but all he did was tuck a strand of my hair behind my ear.

Both of my hands were on his chest. They had a mind of their own. I claimed no responsibility for them. Daemon kissed like he was a man starving for water, taking long, breathless drafts. When his hands slid...under my shirt, it was as though he reached deep inside me, warming every cell, filling evry dark space within me. Touching him, kissing him, was like having a fever all over again. I was on fire. My body burned. The world burned. Sparks flew. Against his mouth, I moaned.

Dog eared pages were the antichrist of book lovers everywhere.
